The much sought after traditional Alentejo dishes as the bread soups, “açordas”, “migas” (crumbs), Iberian pig meats and lamb stew can be found in the many restaurants of the Campo Branco region.
Considered a delicacy, the roasted lamb head is particularly exquisite. Among the traditional “enchidos”, the sausages, chorizos and “paios” take a prominent place.
For cheese lovers, Entradas is a mandatory stop. There you can find the Serpa DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) cheese, goat’s cheese, fresh cheeses and curd cheese.
You cannot say goodbye to Castro Verde without tasting the traditional delicacies of the Alentejo pastry. The “chila” stuffed puff pastry (a type of squash), the curd cheese cakes, the “popias de espécie” and the white “popias” are some of the delicacies which are part and parcel of the pastry shops’ windows.
