The Sustainable Castro Verde Program
National and International Acknowledgment The dynamics of the SCVP is perceptible in its success in recovering bird populations (particularly steppe birds), in the synergies with other entities (local, regional, national and international), in the relation with the scientific community and the local populations (particularly schools), as well as in the national and international prizes and award it has been granted.
Besides the participation in several international forums, the excellent results of the Sustainable Castro Verde Program have been widely acknowledged. The LPN was awarded the following prizes:
1994/5 – Ford European Conservation Award – Project "Conservation of the Avifauna of the Cereal Steppes of Castro Verde”.
1999 - Milénio Sagres Expresso Award for the Project "Demonstration Center for the Sustainable and Integrated Management of Water Resources ".
2001 - Ford Motor Company Award for Environment Conservation, in the category “Conservationist Engineering”, granted to the Pilot project to Fight Desertification in Baixo Alentejo.
2002 – National Award and Award in the category “Natural Environment” of the Ford Motor Company Awards for Conservation and Environment, granted to the Project “Recovery of the Lesser Kestrel in Portugal”.
2005 – International Award “Global 100 Eco-Tech Awards”, granted in the context of the 2005 Universal Exhibition in Aichi, Japan.
2007 – International Award of the Energy Globe Awards in the category National, granted by the Energy Global Foundation with the support of the European Parliament, for activities promoting sustainability and nature conservation in Portuguese farming areas, in Brussels, Belgium.
2008 – International Award “European Environment and Soil Management Award”, granted by ELO - European Landowners Organization, sponsored by the Environment Commissary of the European Commission, for the LPN’s work in Castro Verde in demonstration projects of farming practices against desertification, in Brussels, Belgium.
2008 – European Award Best LIFE-Nature Projects, granted by the European Commission, to the Project LIFE Lesser Kestrel, in Brussels, Belgium.
2010 – International Award "10th Mediterranean Honorific Award", granted by the Mediterranean Foundation CIE and the MIO-ESCDE, for cooperation work directed to the conservation of steppe birds in Castro Verde, in Tarragona, Spain.
2013 – European Award “Best LIFE Nature Projects”, granted by the European Commission, to the project LIFE Steppe Birds, in Brussels, Belgium.
