The Castro Verde region is the most important cereal steppe area in Portugal, originally called Campo Branco due to its plain, white fields (the result of the poverty of its soils).
Castro Verde’s landscape is, without a doubt, the regions calling card which, during the winter, is covered by the green of the burgeoning cereal fields (reminding us of the natural Eurasian steppes); during the spring its pastures become a net of bright colors (where cows and sheep graze); and in the summer it is transformed into a golden wilderness (reminding us of African savannas).
