Open to the public in the year 2000, the CEAVG directs its activities to the promotion of environmental awareness, knowledge and valorization of the natural heritage related to Castro Verde cereal steppe. Its main goals are:

. To be the logistic work platform of LPN in Castro Verde;
. To be the point of reception and information for those visiting the region, particularly birdwatchers;
. To encourage and promote technical-scientific works on the steppe ecosystem and related biodiversity;
. To promote environmental education and awareness by carrying out activities with the general public and schools that improve public knowledge on the largest and most important cereal steppe area in Portugal;
. To promote sustainable ecotourism, particularly bird-watching.
